Several years ago, our family heard about Ms. Jyoti Angresh, a yoga coach living in Singapore. My wife started to follow her private yoga lessons through online connections when she was quarantined in France for several months during the first peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. These lessons allowed my wife to regain enough confidence to resist these very severe psychological conditions while I was locked far away from her in China. At first, I was not enthusiastic about engaging myself in yoga-type exercises, knowing that I would not be very receptive to the philosophical attributes of yoga. However, seeing the very significant signs of progress made by my wife, I decided to take a few lessons. Jyoti succeeded in convincing me to pursue it until today. She is very adaptable to older people like us (almost 80 years old), and both of us trained as researchers in life sciences, thus too addicted to basic Cartesian logic to cope with the spiritual concepts developed by yogis. She found a way to gently engage us in progressively more challenging exercises, paying much attention to our physical weaknesses. I must recognize that I have made significant progress in re-acquiring satisfactory body functions, most importantly equilibrium. This is an important step to protect us from falling with a high risk of fractures. Jyoti is always extremely supportive with a very good spirit. She monitors every step of the different exercises online and corrects all wrong positions instantly. I can even abstract myself a few minutes away from my 24-hour-a-day obsession with my research. As a scientist, I would strongly encourage current and former collaborators at Stanford University and UCSF to contact her. Indeed, I recommend her very highly to anyone else. I’ve met Jyoti as a fresh parent of the UWCSEA community and since then she’s been enriching my life on many levels – as an inspirational yoga teacher, an insightful writer with deep knowledge of Singapore’s history and finally as a dear friend. I’m wary of repetition and boredom but throughout the years of yoga practice with Jyoti I’ve learn how to appreciate yoga in its repetitive yet versatile, ever expanding nature. Jyoti’s strength lies in her empathy, originality & professionalism. Under her gentle yet firm guidance I’ve gradually taken responsibility for my body’s integrity, explored my mind from within and understood that there are no actual limits in what you can do. I’ve also had an opportunity to know Jyoti as a writer. Her book “Fort Canning Hill: Exploring Singapore’s Heritage and Nature” has been an essential source of information for my guiding. Thoroughly researched, well written with many witty anecdotes it is a “must-have” for any heritage enthusiast!

I have been attending yoga classes with Jyoti for several years now and enjoy the intimate connection that she effortlessly establishes with her students. Jyoti's intuitive nature has always made me feel understood and taken care of. Her teachings go beyond just the physical aspects of yoga and have helped me connect deeper within for greater clarity of what my life path is. Jyoti's kind compassionate nature has helped me express my vulnerabilities and find the courage to express myself more freely. I dearly value her teachings and connection for my own continuous personal growth. My regular sessions with Jyoti are something I always look forward to as each session leaves me feeling lighter within and more centered.

Over the years, Jyoti has been a constant source of motivation and inspiration for me -through her lessons, retreats & practices I have evolved and grown and continue to do so immeasurably. She offers an instinctive knowledge & understanding connection which continues beyond the session & can be applied in all areas of daily life. Wherever I am in the world it is as essential to me as breathing, to tune into her fantastic and thought provoking programs.

As I was going into my first yoga class, I was prepared not to like it. I was definitely not a yoga person, with all that chanting and flexibility. It took Jyoti one class to persuade me that everyone can be a yoga person. I didn’t know it then but that class was to have a lasting affect on my life. Jyoti with her calming voice, clear direction and beaming smile, started leading me through my yoga/life journey. She has shown me it’s not just yoga but a way of life. When I’m angry, frustrated or anxious, I hear Jyoti’s voice say ‘just breathe’ and I breathe my way through life. I’m lucky to have Jyoti as a yoga teacher and dear friend. I’ve travelled thousands of miles to go on a yoga retreat with Jyoti. Even living so far away, Jyoti has made it possible to do weekly yoga and keep the connection. I know Jyoti’s door and heart is always open to me. How special is that!

"Jyoti came into my life over 6 years ago when I joined her yoga class for the very first time. Little did I know then that she would become such a powerful positive influence in my life. Jyoti is one of those rare people you meet that truly lights up a room when she enters, her warmth permeates everywhere. She teaches you from not only her vast experience professionally and from personal life ...but more importantly from her enormous heart and soul. I have been able to garner Jyoti's teaching and knowledge and apply it in my own personal growth to which I am forever grateful. I feel more attuned to my inner self and therefore am able to reflect more deeply with conviction. I look forward to continuing my yoga journey through life with Jyoti firmly right there with me !!!! "
